Ghost Hunt in a Nuclear Bunker

On Saturday 4th May 2024 we carried out a paranormal investigation inside Barnton Bunker, a disused nuclear bunker in Edinburgh.

Once upon a time, Barnton Bunker was the designated Regional Seat of Government for Scotland in the event of nuclear war. Had the worst happened, around 400 civil servants, politicians, firefighters and doctors would have taken shelter there and done their best to restore some semblance of order to the ravaged world outside.

Since the Cold War came to an end, it’s mostly been abandoned. Or on fire. But now it’s very slowly being transformed into a museum.

We explored every part of the bunker, but found it to be mostly not haunted. Our investigators did use a Ouija board to make contact with one restless spirit… which claimed to have died in the 1930s from electrocution. Given that the site was mostly underground in the 1930s, we were sceptical.

Experimentation with an spirit box also produced these alarming results in a room that was once an RAF officer’s rest area:

The bunker itself was extremely spooky. One notable feature was a long, straight, sloping corridor leading down into the main part of the complex. It would have made the bunker very easy to defend. If the ravaged hordes of radiation-sick peasants attempted to attack your government stronghold, it would be pretty easy to shoot them all as they tried to charge down this corridor.

Follow us on YouTube if you want to see more of the bunker – we’ll be posting a video about its long and rather interesting history at some point in the near future!
