On the 15th of August 2024 and the 25th of August 2024, we ran Robot Vacuum Fight Club – an interactive gameshow at the Edinburgh Fringe where teams customised robot vacuum cleaners and then had them face off in the arena in a series of knockout competitions that tested their speed, agility, suction power and ferocity.
As you can see, people were quite… creative with the crafting materials available.
Some teams even incorporated things they found in the venue.
We had around a dozen teams each time, with some extremely creative names including:
- “We’re Not Henry”
- “Stab Bunny”
- “Cleana Warrior Princess”
- “Suction for Hire”
- “Sir Sweepalot”
Robots were judged based on suction power (which robot could pick up the most confetti in two minutes), comportment (ability to retain a small plastic hat), aesthetics (which robot looked the most unholy), and combat skills (ability to evade a remote controlled car with a spike on the front).
It was a bit chaotic, but generally a good time. And nobody poked their eye out with a fork.
We’re hoping to run a bigger, better version of Robot Vacuum Fight Club next year at the Edinburgh Fringe 2025!
